Kapaa Sands Ocean front

The Kapaa Sands Ocean Front complex is situated beside a reef, commonly known as Turtle Bay, and boasts an abundance of tropical fish and turtles. If you are seeking a tranquil, intimate boutique resort with stunning landscaping and within walking distance to shopping and dining options, then you have discovered the ideal destination.

This townhome is a gem of traditional Hawaii, exuding a serene ambiance that embraces you like family – or “Ohana” in Hawaiian. The amenities include lush tropical gardens, a swimming pool and patio area complete with a gas barbecue, and a washer and dryer available for guests. You can also enjoy exploring the property by walking to the wading pools and ocean. Despite being only 15 minutes away from Lihue airport, this retreat feels like a world away.

There are plenty of exciting things to explore on Kauai. Hiking is a must-do activity, where you can witness the breathtaking views of the 3,000-foot Na Pali Coast cliffs. For another awe-inspiring sight, head over to Waimea Canyon – the mile-wide and 3,600-foot deep rust-red canyon stretching up to 10 miles. Kokee State Park, located up the canyon, offers numerous hikes along sheer cliffs, where you can spot rare birds and even fish for trout. You can also pick plums and passion fruit throughout the season.

If you’re near Kapaa, be sure to visit the stunning Opaekaa Falls. These falls cascade hundreds of feet in front of the Makaleha Mountains. Most beaches have barbecue pits and tables that offer an ideal spot to enjoy a feast while watching the sunset. Snorkeling is available all around the island, but Hideaways Beach, also known as Secret Beach near the St. Regis Hotel in Princeville, is my favorite spot. While in Princeville, don’t forget to check out the Queen’s Baths for a dramatic surf experience over the rocks.

Explore Old Town Kapaa, Hanapepe, and Koloa to experience the local flair and craft fairs. Be sure not to miss the old Lighthouse at Kilauea and the Wildlife Refuge on this historic property. In Hanalei, you can attend the weekly slack key concerts by Doug and Sandy McMaster.

If you prefer guided activities, you can join kayak trips up the Wailua River. This pleasant outing combines a short hike to a waterfall with a kayak adventure. Ziplining just south of Princeville offers an extensive free-falling course. For a dramatic and up-close view from the sea, opt for water tours of the Na Pali coastline.
